Chiang Mai Day 3

At the hill tribe village.
This was actually a village of Laotians.
They sell things to tourists and work as labor in town.

Today we rode in the back of a pickup for almost two hours up into the mountains around Chiang Mai. We visited a small mountain village, rode elephants, rafted down a river, and hiked to a waterfall.

Soi (street) dogs are everywhere. EVERYONE has clothes hanging out to dry.
The houses along the river are very interesting...water is used for swimming and doing dishes.
Life on the river has remained the same for hundreds of years.

WOW! Very interesting pictures. It's neat to see how others live in the world...including the dogs! Thanks for sharing! Mon 15-Dec-2003 03:59

Ronald McDonald Does The Wai

Ronald doing the wai
Spirit House Near Hotel
On Spirit House Near Hotel

The traditional greeting, the wai, in which the hands are brought together near the chin, is always initiated by the inferior, and the height of the wai reflects the social gap between parties. Other rules of etiquette, such as never raising the voice, transcend class. Despite such rules that they apply to themselves, Thais are renouwned for their tolerance of other cultures and friendliness to visitors. Offense is taken only if there is any perceived disrepect to the king or Buddhism.

The city of Bangkok has MANY tall buildings. Many people live in high-rise apartments or condos.
Parks are about the only place you see grass!
