We visited the floating market, it is an amazing place. People sell goods from boats! You can walk along the market, or ride in a boat. Either way you can buy from the vendors. We rode on a long-tailed boat to get to the market.

Loy Krathong Celebration

This weekend marked the end of the rainy season with a big celebration called Loy Krathong. It is celebrated on the first full moon of November. Boats (krathongs), made of banana leaves in the old days, are floated to pay homage to the goddess of the rivers and waterways. In the evening people gather at rivers, lakes and ponds to float the krathongs and celebrate. Each Krathong has a candle, flowers, coins, food and incense. We took a cruise on the Chao Phraya river. It was quite an evening. We saw many Krathong's and enjoyed the festivities. We liked the fireworks! We were up close and personal viewing them from the top deck of the Pearl of Siam.

The water is an important resource for the country, allowing them to grow rice (big export business) and many fruits and vegetables.

We went to Ayutthaya - an old city founded in 1350.
We also saw the Summer Palace, AKA the Bang Pa-In Palace.
We took a boat ride on the "Pearl Of Siam" back to Bangkok
and took some shots from the river Chao Pharaya - "river of kings".
This river is known as Thailand's most important waterway!

We took a guided tour to the Khao Yai National Park.
It is about 1-1/2 hours N. of Bangkok.
We rode an Ox Cart, hiked to a waterfall, and rode an elephant through
the jungle and a RIVER!
This was a very unique experience.

No more snakes, Halie. Thu 6-Nov-2003 15:17
